A prominent Hindu temple in Brampton in Canada has been targeted with anti-India graffiti, causing outrage among the Indian community.
Condemning the act of vandalism at Gauri Shankar Mandir, the Indian Consulate General in Toronto said the defacing of the temple has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada.
"The hateful act of vandalism has deeply hurt sentiments of the Indian community in Canada. We have raised our concerns on the matter with Canadian authorities," the consulate office said in a statement on Tuesday.
The temple, which is a symbol of Indian heritage, has been left vandalised with hate-filled messages directed towards India.
The Canadian authorities are currently investigating the incident.
The defacing of the Hindu temple in Brampton is not an isolated incident, with at least three similar acts of vandalism recorded in Canada since last July.
Last September, the Indian Foreign Ministry has issued a strongly worded statement, saying there has been a &ldquo;sharp increase&rdquo; in hate crimes against Indians and other &ldquo;anti-India activities&rdquo; in Canada. New Delhi had urged the Canadian government to properly investigate the incidents.
Statistics Canada, the country's national statistical office, has reported a 72 percent increase in hate crimes targeting religion, sexual orientation and race in Canada between 2019 and 2021.
This has led to increased fears among minority communities, particularly the Indian community, which is the fastest-growing demographic group in Canada, accounting for almost four percent of the population.
Indian officials have repeatedly raised the issue of attacks on the Indian community by pro-Khalistani elements in Canada.

The blast occurred inside the mosque in the Police Lines area around 1.40 pm when worshippers, which included personnel of the police, army and bomb disposal squad - were offering the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers. The bomber who was present in the front row blew himself up, officials said.
Lady Reading Hospital officials said 46 people have died so far. However, the Peshawar Police has released a list of 38 victims.
There were mostly policemen among the injured.

The comet, which has a mouthful of a name &ndash; C/2022 E3 (ZTF) &ndash; was first sighted in March last year, when it was already inside the orbit of Jupiter. It makes its closest approach to the Sun on January 12, and then passes its closest to Earth on February 2.
Experts call Comet ZTF an interesting comet. It comes from far out in the solar system, more than 2,000 times further from the sun than the Earth is. It dove in from above the Earth, moved down around the sun, and is now swinging around Earth on its way back out.
This comet is interesting because it comes from a region far out in the edges of the solar system called the Oort Cloud. The Oort Cloud is a mysterious, not well understood region of space with a reservoir of comets that are left over from the formation of the Earth and sun billions of years ago.

At least 50 people were injured when a suicide attacker blew himself up at a mosque here in the capital of Pakistan's restive province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, officials said.
The blast occurred near the Police Lines area around 1.40 pm when the Zuhr prayers were being offered, the Dawn newspaper reported.
According to security officials, the suicide attacker was present in the front row during the prayers when he exploded himself, injuring dozens of people offering prayers.
The injured are being shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, the officials said.
Hospital sources said 13 of those injured were in critical condition.
An emergency has been imposed in the locality and the area has been cordoned off.&nbsp;

The video which has now gone viral was posted by Nahira Ziaye, a lawyer in Afghanistan.&nbsp;
In the 39-second clip, Ziaye can be heard talking to the little girl selling pens on street. She asks her name to which the girl replies Zainab. The woman then goes on to ask the cost for pens and hands over the currency notes to the girl. Surprised at first, the girl points out that the woman has given her money more than she asked.&nbsp;
Zainab's face lights up after the woman told her to go home and give the money to her mother.&nbsp;

The death toll from the bomb blast rose to 93, with 221 people severely wounded, police officials said, even as rescue operations continued to retrieve the remaining bodies from the debris.
The powerful blast occurred inside the mosque in the Police Lines area around 1.40 pm when worshippers, which included personnel of the police, army and bomb disposal squad -- were offering the Zuhr (afternoon) prayers.
The suicide bomber who was present in the front row blew himself up, causing the roof to collapse on the worshippers, officials said.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the suicide attack, saying it was part of a revenge attack for slain TTP commander Umar Khalid Khurasani who was killed in Afghanistan in August last.
A police official said that a portion of the mosque collapsed and several people were believed to be under it.
The TTP, set up as an umbrella group of several militant outfits in 2007, called off a ceasefire with the federal government and ordered its militants to stage terrorist attacks across the country.
The group, which is believed to be close to al-Qaeda, has been blamed for several deadly attacks across Pakistan, including an attack on army headquarters in 2009, assaults on military bases, and the 2008 bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.
In 2014, the Pakistani Taliban stormed the Army Public School (APS) in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing at least 150 people, including 131 students.
The attack has sent shockwaves across the world and was widely condemned.&nbsp;

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has filed a request for a six-month visitor visa to stay in the US, indicating he may have no immediate intention of returning home, where legal issues await.
The application was first reported by The Financial Times, citing Bolsonaro's immigration lawyer, Felipe Alexandre. Contacted by The Associated Press, the lawyer's firm, AG Immigration, confirmed the report.
Bolsonaro left Brazil for Florida on Dec. 30, two days before the inauguration of his leftist rival, Luiz In&aacute;cio Lula da Silva. The ceremony proceeded without incident, but a week later thousands of Bolsonaro's die-hard supporters stormed the capital and trashed the top government buildings demanding that Lula's election be overturned.
Bolsonaro is being investigated for whether he had any role in inciting that uprising. It is just one of several probes targeting the former president and that pose a legal headache upon his eventual homecoming, and which could strip him of his eligibility in future races &mdash; or worse.
For the first time in his more than three-decade political career as a lawmaker then as president, he no longer enjoys the special legal protection that requires any trial be held at the Supreme Court.
It has been widely assumed &mdash; though not confirmed &mdash; that Bolsonaro entered the U.S. on an A-1 visa reserved for sitting heads of state. If so, he would have 30 days from the end of his presidential term to either leave the U.S. or adjust his status with the Department of Homeland Security.

In the wake of the rampage in the Brazilian capital this month, a group of 46 Democratic lawmakers sent a letter to President Joe Biden demanding Bolsonaro's visa be revoked.
&ldquo;The United States must not provide shelter for him, or any authoritarian who has inspired such violence against democratic institutions,&rdquo; they wrote.
Bolsonaro's son, a senator, told reporters at an event this weekend that he was not sure when his father would return to Brazil.
"It could be tomorrow, it could be in six months, he might never return. I don't know. He's relaxing,&rdquo; Sen. Fl&aacute;vio Bolsonaro said.
Asked whether Bolsonaro has filed any request for documentation or help with visa processses, Brazil's foreign ministry referred AP to US authorities. President Joe Biden informed Congress on Monday that he will end the twin national emergencies for addressing COVID-19 on May 11, as most of the world has returned closer to normalcy nearly three years after they were first declared.
The move to end the national emergency and public health emergency declarations would formally restructure the federal coronavirus response to treat the virus as an endemic threat to public health that can be managed through agencies' normal authorities.
It comes as lawmakers have already ended elements of the emergencies that kept millions of Americans insured during the pandemic. Combined with the drawdown of most federal COVID-19 relief money, it would also shift the development of vaccines and treatments away from the direct management of the federal government.
Biden's announcement comes in a statement opposing resolutions being brought to the floor this week by House Republicans to bring the emergency to an immediate end. House Republicans are also gearing up to launch investigations on the federal government's response to COVID-19.
Then-President Donald Trump first declared the COVID-19 pandemic a national emergency on March 13, 2020. The emergencies have been repeatedly extended by Biden since he took office in January 2021, and are set to expire in the coming months. The White House said Biden plans to extend them both briefly to end on May 11.
&ldquo;An abrupt end to the emergency declarations would create wide-ranging chaos and uncertainty throughout the health care system &mdash; for states, for hospitals and doctors' offices, and, most importantly, for tens of millions of Americans,&rdquo; the Office of Management and Budget wrote in a Statement of Administration Policy.
Congress has already blunted the reach of the public health emergency that had the most direct impact on Americans, as political calls to end the declaration intensified. Lawmakers have refused for months to fulfill the Biden administration's request for billions of more dollars to extend free COVID vaccines and testing.
And the $1.7 trillion spending package passed last year and signed into law by Biden put an end to a rule that barred states from kicking people off Medicaid, a move that is expected to see millions of people lose their coverage after April 1.

The costs of COVID-19 vaccines are also expected to skyrocket once the government stops buying them, with Pfizer saying it will charge as much as $130 per dose. Only 15% of Americans have received the recommended, updated booster that has been offered since last fall.

The bomber who was present in the front row blew himself up, causing the roof to collapse on the worshippers, officials said.
"This morning we are going to remove the last part of the collapsed roof so we can recover more bodies, but we are not hopeful of reaching any survivors," Bilal Ahmad Faizi, a spokesperson for the rescue organisation 1122, told AFP.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the suicide attack, saying it was part of a revenge attack for slain TTP commander Umar Khalid Khurasani who was killed in Afghanistan in August last.

Ten people were injured Monday afternoon during a drive-by shooting in a central Florida neighborhood, police said.
Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor said during a news conference that two of the victims were critically injured, while the wounds of the other eight victims weren't considered life-threatening. Lakeland is located about 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of Tampa.
&ldquo;I've been here 34 years, and I can tell you I have never worked an event where this many people were shot at one time, ever,&rdquo; Taylor said.
A crowd of people were gathered along a residential street when a dark-blue sedan rolled by, police said. Shooters fired from the windows before the car sped away. Officers were actively searching for the vehicle and the shooters Monday night, officials said.
Taylor said investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.
