Prince William Envisions Modern Monarchy with Meaningful Change

Prince William envisions a future monarchy focused on meaningful change, promising a legacy for his son, Prince George, while reflecting on personal challenges and family matters.

Prince William Envisions Modern Monarchy with Meaningful Change

In a rare candid interview, Prince William has outlined his vision for the future monarchy when he eventually ascends to the British throne. Speaking with Canadian actor Eugene Levy during the filming of the international travel documentary ‘The Reluctant Traveller’ at Windsor Castle, the 43-year-old Prince of Wales revealed that change is central to his future plans.

Addressing the question of whether the monarchy might shift in a new direction under his leadership, William confidently asserted, "I think it's safe to say that change is on my agenda." He emphasized his desire for "change for good," expressing excitement about the possibility of implementing necessary changes that will benefit the institution and its people. William clarified, "Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen."

Touching upon the hereditary nature of the monarchy, which will one day be passed to his eldest son, Prince George, William expressed a desire to build a legacy that his son could be proud of. "I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, in a world and a job that actually does impact people's lives for the better," he added.

He also reflected on past practices, noting, "That is caveated with, I hope we don't go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I grew up in. And I'll do everything I can to make sure we don't regress in that situation."

In another segment, William candidly spoke about feeling "overwhelmed" by family issues, particularly referencing last year when both his wife Kate and his father Charles were diagnosed with cancer. He described it as "the hardest year." "Stuff to do with family overwhelms me, quite a bit. You know, worry or stress around the family side of things, that does overwhelm me quite a bit. But in terms of doing the job and things like that, I don't feel too overwhelmed by that. Not now anyway," he shared.
