A security camera caught Taiwan residents running out of a house when a strong earthquake struck Yuli township on Sunday afternoon.

The strong earthquake shook much of Taiwan, toppling a three-story building and temporarily trapping four people inside, stranding about 400 tourists on a mountainside, and knocking part of a passenger train off its tracks.

The magnitude 6.8 quake was the largest among dozens that rattled the island's southeastern coast since Saturday evening, when a 6.4 quake struck the same area.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen urged people to be on alert and remain vigilant for the possible aftershocks in the coming days.

The quake also brought down the Gaoliao bridge which is in the same town.

According to Hualien County government, three people whose vehicle fell off the bridge were rescued and taken to the hospital.

About 400 tourists who were stranded on a mountainside when a strong earthquake hit Taiwan have descended safely, as the island recovers Monday from the quake damage.
