USA: woman tries to drive down stairs, blames GPS; another man drives on rail tracks in Portland, Maine

In a bizarre incident, a woman in USA tried to drive her huge SUV down a flight of stairs - that too at a police station. Her excuse? Her GPS told her to do it.

If that wasn't enough, another driver was found driving down railroad tracks.

Both these incidents occurred in Portland city in the state of Maine.

In the first incident, police said that a 26-year-old woman driver drove through the police department garage, across the pedestrian plaza in the complex, and then tried to drive down the stairs to Middle Street. The city's police department posted photographs of the SUV stuck on a flight of stairs, on April 30.

She was drunk, according to the police. Portland police said, "Responding officers felt it was her excessive blood alcohol level."

She was issued a summons for OUI, or Operating Under the Influence of alcohol.
Police said it was "fortunate" that the driver didn't hit anyone, and the incident ended with minor property damage.

In the second incident, police said that no alcohol was involved. The driver was a 25-year-old man from a different state who got lost and didn't realise he was driving down railroad tracks off of Congress street "until was too late", police said.
