USA to give $100 million more to Pakistan; total $200 million for recovery after 2022 floods

The United States of America on 9 January 2023 announced additional funding worth $100 million to Pakistan.

The funding is meant to aid recovery and reconstruction efforts after the devastating floods in 2022 which killed 1,739 persons and impacted 3.3 crore people. US State Department spokesperson Ned Price that the additional funding has taken USA's total contribution to more than $200 million.

The new USD 100 million in funding will be for flood protection and governance, disease surveillance, economic growth, and clean energy, climate smart agriculture, food security, and infrastructure reconstruction, Price said.

The United States' flood-related assistance complements its broader efforts to form a US-Pakistan green alliance that looks at the range of climate and resilience issues central to Pakistan's reconstruction, the spokesperson said.
