US: winner of world's largest ever lottery buys house in Hollywood Hills

The winner of the historic $2.04 billion 'Powerball' jackpot is now the owner of a plush mansion in Los Angeles' Hollywood Hills where celebrities like Jimmy Kimmel, and Ariana Grande also reside, according to media reports.

Edwin Castro, who won the world's largest lottery prize in November 2022 bought the five-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion for $25.5 million in a real estate sale early this month.

The sale is reportedly the most expensive deal in Hollywood Hills so far this year.

Castro's luxurious mansion has amenities like an infinity pool, movie theatre, and gym among others.

After winning the jackpot, Castro wanted to stay out of the spotlight, according to a report by The Guardian. However, officials have now revealed his identity but his other details such as occupation, age, and address have been kept confidential in line with his demands.

He reportedly refused to appear for a press conference and officials published his name while reading a statement on his behalf at an event. The statement read, “I am shocked and ecstatic to have won the Powerball drawing.”

Castro's winning ticket matched all five winning numbers and the Powerball number when he bought the ticket at a store in Los Angeles last year.

He collected the winning amount as a lump sum of over $997.6m instead of choosing to collect the full prize in the form of an annuity of over 29 years.
