US professor says ChatGPT falsely accused him of sexual harassment, invented news article

A Law Professor at George Washington University in United States was in for a shock after he found out that ChatGPT had falsely accused him of sexually harassing a female student based on a news article that had never been written.

Jonathan Turley found out about the accusation after receiving an email from a UCLA professor, who had reportedly asked ChatGPT to come up with five instances of sexual harassment by professors at American law schools. As part of the research he had also asked ChatGPT to cite newspaper articles. The AI chatbot named Turley in its answer and cited a 2018 Washington Post article.

Turley then wrote blog post saying that the Washington Post had never published any such article and he has never been accused of sexual harassment. He also rejected ChatGPT's claims that he had ever taught at Georgetown University and that he had gone on a class trip to Alaska where he had sexually harassed a female student.
