Ukraine War: Oksana Shvets, Ukrainian actor killed by Russian shelling

Ukrainian actor Oksana Shvets has been killed in a Russian rocket attack on a residential building in Kyiv.

Her troupe, the Young Theater, issued a statement that read, 'During the rocket shelling of a residential building in Kyiv, a well-deserved artist of Ukraine Oksana Shvets was killed,' confirming her demise.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Oksana was 67. She was the recipient of a Merited Artist of Ukraine award, one of the country’s highest honours for the performing arts.

Apart from theatre work, she starred in Ukrainian films, including 'Tomorrow Will Be Tomorrow,' 'The Secret of St. Patrick,' 'The Return of Mukhtar' and the TV show 'House With Lilies.'

Another Ukrainian actor, Pasha Lee, died fighting against Russia, earlier this month.

On February 24, Russia began a military operation in Ukraine, responding to calls for help from the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in countering the aggression of Ukrainian troops.

Since then, in 23 days, Russia has mercilessly bombed Ukrainian cities, displacing millions and killing hundreds.

Russia's defence ministry has said that the special operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only. According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, almost 600 civilians have been killed and more than 1,000 injured in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.
