Ukraine war: Biden, Johnson dial Zelenskyy after nuclear plant fire, urge Russia to stop shelling

US President Joe Biden spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy to receive an update on the fire at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Biden urged Russia to cease its military activities in the affected area and allow access to emergency responders, the White House has said.

On Thursday, Russian forces pressed their attack on a crucial energy-producing Ukrainian city by shelling Europe's largest nuclear plant early Friday. The shelling sparked a fire and raised fears that radiation could leak from the damaged power station.

The UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, also spoke to Zelenskyy after the incident at the nuclear power plant.

The British PM has said that he would call an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in the coming hours over the situation around the Zaporizhzhya nuclear plant.

Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Twitter that it's been informed by Ukraine's nuclear regulator that “there has been no change reported in radiation levels” at a nuclear power station shelled by Russian troops.
