Trump's UK Visit Largely Avoids London Amid Criticism from Mayor Khan

London, Sep 17 (AP) – During his state visit to the UK, U.S. President Donald Trump will mostly steer clear of London, a decision that seems to be welcomed by the city's mayor.

Sadiq Khan, London’s mayor, expressed his sentiments in The Guardian newspaper, accusing Trump and his supporters of contributing to the rise of "divisive, far-right politics" worldwide. He criticized Trump’s policies, including mass deportations and the deployment of troops to U.S. cities, calling them actions "straight out of the autocrat's playbook".

Khan, who is part of the Labour Party and has been mayor since 2016, has a history of sparring with Trump ever since the president's 2015 campaign promise to ban Muslims from entering the United States. In anticipation of a protest planned for Wednesday against Trump's visit, Khan encouraged Londoners to voice their opposition to the president and those who, he claims, try to create unrest through fear.

In response, Trump has previously criticized Khan, stating in July that the mayor has "done a terrible job" and labeling him as a "nasty person".
