Trump names Dan Bongino as deputy director of FBI

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday evening that Dan Bongino, a well-known conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent, has been appointed as the Deputy Director of the FBI.

Trump made the announcement via Truth Social, expressing his confidence in Bongino and the new FBI leadership.

Bongino, 50, has a background in law enforcement, having served as an NYPD officer and a Secret Service special agent. He later transitioned to a media career, previously hosting "Unfiltered" on Fox News before parting ways with the network in 2023.

Despite his success in media, which includes hosting "The Dan Bongino Show" podcast, Bongino has decided to step back into public service, ending his podcast to take on his new role.

President Trump praised the leadership team, including newly appointed FBI Director Kash Patel and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, expressing optimism in restoring "Fairness, Justice, Law and Order" in the United States.

Kash Patel, who has been a vocal critic of the FBI prior to his appointment, was confirmed by the Senate with a narrow 51-49 vote and began his 10-year term as FBI Director on Friday.

Bongino, responding to his appointment, extended his gratitude to President Trump and the new leadership team on social media platform X.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Bongino has academic ties to New York City, holding a master’s degree in psychology from the City University of New York, as highlighted by President Trump.
