Trudeau Admits No Solid Proof Of India's Involvement In Nijjar's Killing, 'Acted On Intelligence'

As Canada blames India for Nijjar killing, Trudeau admits they have 'no hard proof'. Testifying before inquiry panel, PM Justin Trudeau says Canada 'acted on intelligence'.

"They [India] asked to show the evidence, and at that point, it was primarily intelligence, not hard evidentiary proof." Justin Trudeau said.

In 2023, Canada accused India of orchestrating murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Khalastani leader shot dead outside Gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023.

Canada alleged involvement of Indian govt agents in killing, a violation of Canadian sovereignty. Diplomatic storm followed, with Canada naming Indian diplomat person of interest.

India strongly rejected Canada's allegations and asked for hard evidence. After Trudeau's testimony, India said it confirmed New Delhi's stance on evidence.

“What we have heard today only confirms what we have been saying consistently all along – Canada has presented us no evidence whatsoever in support of the serious allegations that it has chosen to level against India and Indian diplomats.” India's MEA Spokesperson Randhi Jaiswal said.

India-Canada ties are at historic lows after Trudeau's public allegations. The two nations have expelled diplomats and downgraded strategic ties.

Trudeau claimed Indian diplomats were collaborating with Lawrence Bishnoi's gang. India has accused Canada of providing safe haven to Khalistani separatists.
