In an unusual way to mark Valentine's Day, a Canadian zoo on January 15 launched a campaign to let people vent their feelings through a cockroach.

The Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy's 'Name-a-roach' contest requires people to name a cockroach after the person who annoys them. To participate, one has to pay $25, which amounts to about 1500 Indian rupees.

Zoo's official website mentioned that participants will be provided with a digital certificate comprising their name and that of the 'roach' in their life. It added that "inappropriate language, profanity and hate speech" will not be featured on the certificate."

The contest however has now been closed due to overwhelming response, the zoo said in a tweet on January 20.

Earlier it had posted about the campaign saying, "Roses are red; violets are blue… Is there someone in your life that’s bugging you? Give them goosebumps by naming a cockroach in their honour this Valentine's Day."
