This Indian neighbour named 'primary terrorist threat source' in UN report

A year and a half after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, a United Nations report has called the country the primary source of terrorist threat for Central and South Asia.

The report, issued on 14 February 2023, said that a lack of effective security strategy by the Taliban is allowing greater freedom of movement to ISIS, al-Qaeda, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists.

ISIS' off-shoot ISIL-Khorasan is portraying itself as the "primary rival" to the Taliban, the 31st report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team (ISIL, Al-Qaida) said.

“Its main goal is to portray the Taliban as incapable of providing security in the country. By targeting diplomatic missions, ISIL-K seeks to undermine the relationship between the Taliban and neighbouring countries,” it said.
