Bangkok, July 24 (AP) – A significant escalation occurred between Thailand and Cambodia on Thursday as their border conflict intensified, resulting in the deaths of at least nine civilians.

The Thai army reported that the majority of casualties occurred in Si Sa Ket province, where six individuals lost their lives following shots fired at a gas station. In addition, at least 14 people sustained injuries across three border provinces.

The relationship between these Southeast Asian neighbors has sharply deteriorated since a violent confrontation in May, which resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier. Nationalist sentiments in both countries have further exacerbated the situation. (AP)
