Senior members of Sudan government arrested in apparent coup

Sudan's interim prime minister and a number of senior government officials were arrested on Monday, in an apparent military coup, the information ministry said.

The internet in the country was largely cut off and military forces closed the Khartoum airport and international flights were suspended on Monday.

Scenes of unrest could be seen after the apparent military coup.

According to a report by The Hindu, detained government members include Industry Minister, Information Minister, member of the country's ruling transitional body and media adviser to Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.

Military forces stormed the house of Sudan's Prime Minister's media adviser and arrested him.

Sudan has been on an edge since a failed coup plot last month unleashed bitter recriminations between military and civilian groups meant to be sharing power following the 2019 ouster of former leader Omar al-Bashir.
