Russia using chemical weapons against Ukrainian soldiers: report

Russian troops are reportedly carrying out illegal chemical attacks against Ukrainian soldiers.

According to an investigation by Telegraph, Russia is using drones to drop chemical grenades believed to be filled with tear gas or CS gas.

The gas which is commonly used by riot police is banned during wartime under the Chemical Weapons Convention.

The report said that gas attacks, though not lethal, create panic among soldiers, following which they can then be attacked with more conventional weapons. Soldiers are now required to carry masks at all times.

A Ukrainian commander deployed near the front line city of Chasiv Yar said that at many of their positions, one or two gas grenades were dropped a day.

Mikhail, the commander of an infantry unit deployed in Robotnye, in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, where a Russian offensive is currently under way, told Telegraph: “Gas masks saved more than one of our lives.”

meanwhile, Russian missile strikes in Ukraine overnight and on Saturday killed eight people and wounded 12 more, officials said.

According to the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Syniehubov, six people were killed and 11 were wounded in overnight missile attacks on the city of Kharkiv, which is Ukraine's second largest. The attack damaged residential buildings, a gas station, a kindergarten, a cafe, a shop and cars.
