Russia tests missile 10 times faster than speed of sound amid Ukraine war | Zircon hypersonic missile

On the 94th day of the Russia-Ukraine war, Moscow announced the successful testing of the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile. The missile successfully hit its target which was placed 1,000 km away, according to the Russian government.

The missile was fired from Admiral Gorshkov frigate stationed in the Barents Sea, and the target was in the White Sea in the Arctic. The missile can fly at up to ten times the speed of sound, and has a maximum range of 1,000 km.

The Zircon was first tested in October 2020, and it was called a "great event" by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In March, Russia used another hypersonic missile, called the Kinzhal, against Ukraine. Moscow claimed that it was the first time that the Kinzhal had been deployed in combat.

Putin has reportedly called the missiles a family of new "invincible" weapons in Russia's arsenal.
