Queen Elizabeth II funeral: Flights cancelled, rescheduled to avoid noise disruptions

Ahead of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral on September 19, British Airways will cancel 100 flights from its London Heathrow base. It will also reschedule others to avoid noise when the funeral takes place.

Media reports suggest that at least 15% of flight schedule has been altered. Aircraft movement will also be prevented for 30 minutes to not hamper the two-minute silence at the end of the Queen's funeral. Arrivals and departures on the day will also be affected during the procession of the Queen's hearse.

The long-haul flight operations, however, have not been affected.

British Airways in an official statement also confirmed the developments saying the decision has been taken as a mark of respect for the late Queen to ensure the skies are quiet at certain moments.

The Queen passed away on September 8 at Balmoral, and will be laid to rest coming Monday i.e., September 19.
