Nepal's PM Oli Embarks on Diplomatic Visit to China and India

Kathmandu, August 27 (PTI) – Nepal's Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is set to embark on a significant five-day visit to China starting this Saturday. During his stay, he will participate in the SCO Summit and witness a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Following this visit, PM Oli has tentative plans to travel to India two weeks later, further highlighting his diplomatic engagements.

The Foreign Ministry announced that Prime Minister Oli will visit China from August 30 to September 3, upon the invitation of President Xi Jinping. His itinerary includes attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit and commemorative events recognizing the 80th anniversary of victories in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

In Tianjin, PM Oli will meet President Xi and deliver an address at the SCO Plus Summit on September 1. The Foreign Ministry release mentioned strategic meetings with several world leaders on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.

Noteworthy leaders anticipated at the summit include Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Maldives' President Mohamed Muizzu.

Additionally, PM Oli will hold discussions with China’s Vice President, Han Zheng, in Beijing.

His accompanying delegation consists of Education Minister Raghuji Pant, Minister for Tourism and Culture Badri Pandey, and other high-ranking officials. Oli’s spouse, Radhika Shakya, will also be part of the delegation.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on September 3.
