UK’s embattled Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face a vote of confidence in his leadership of the Conservative Party on Monday, days after more details of the partygate scandal at Downing Street emerged.

The vote follows weeks of disquiet within the ruling Conservative Party, with several members of Parliament and former ministers voicing their concerns over the partygate scandal of illegal gatherings at Downing Street during the Covid-19 lockdowns, which they feel has damaged the party’s credibility in the eyes of the voters.

There are 359 Conservative MPs in UK's Parliament, Johnson needs the votes of 180 of them to win the trust vote.

If he loses, he will be removed as leader of the party and as UK PM.

Who are front runners to replace Boris Johnson if he loses?

Liz Truss, UK's foreign secretary is considered very popular among the party members. She however has extended support to Boris Johnson and asked Conservative MPs to support him.

Rishi Sunak - the finance minister was the favourite to succeed Boris Johnson but a controversy over his wife's non-domicile status and taxes may not work in his favour.

Jeremy Hunt - a former health secretary who served as the chair of the health committee in the last 2 Covid-marred years.

Current Health Secretary Sajid Javid is also being seen as contender with him having held almost every senior cabinet.
