Part of Sun 'breaks off', captured by James Webb Space Telescope; scientists stunned

Red flares are seen being emitted from the Sun in the video. The material is now circulating in what scientists called a massive polar vortex.

In a never-before-witnessed phenomenon, a significant amount of material broke off from the Sun's surface and created a swirl around its North Pole.

This was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, and a video is now going viral. The development has left scientists baffled.

Red flares are seen being emitted from the Sun in the video. The material is now circulating in what scientists called a massive polar vortex.

Weather forecaster Tamitha Skov, who shared the video online, called it a great opportunity to understand the Sun's atmospheric dynamics.

"Talk about Polar Vortex! Material from a northern prominence just broke away from the main filament & is now circulating in a massive polar vortex around the north pole of our Star. Implications for understanding the Sun's atmospheric dynamics above 55 degrees here cannot be overstated!" Dr Skov said in a February 3 tweet.
