Pakistan PM tries damage control after 'lesson learned from India wars' remark, raises J&K special status

Following Pakistan Prime Minister's comments that the country had learned its lesson after fighting 3 wars with India, his office attempted some damage control.

Shehbaz Sharif's office on 17 January 2023 said that the Pakistani Prime Minister has "repeatedly" said that talks can only take place after India reverses its decision of 5 August 2019, when Jammu and Kashmir's special status was revoked.

Earlier, in an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Sharif had said that wars brought misery and poverty while calling for "serious and sincere" talks with India on "burning points" like Kashmir.

"My message to the Indian leadership and Prime Minister Modi is that let's sit down on the table and have serious and sincere talks to resolve our burning points like Kashmir. It is up to us to live peacefully and make progress or quarrel with each other and waste time and resources," Sharif had said.
