Nijjar murder probe: India won't help unless Canada shows evidence, says envoy

India's High Commissioner to Canada has said that New Delhi won't cooperate in the murder probe of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar unless the Justin Trudeau administration shares credible evidence.

Sanjay Kumar Verma told the Globe and Mail outlet on February 5 that India will not provide information to the investigators unless there is evidence linking to the alleged Indian government's agents.

“We need relevant and specific evidence for us to help the Canadian authorities,” he was quoted as saying last week. “Unless we see something relevant and specific, it would be extremely difficult for us to do anything to help the Canadian authorities.”

The comments contradict Canada's former national security security advisor Jody Thomas, who in late January before her retirement, told CTV outlet that the relationship between the two countries was improving.

“I wouldn’t describe them as not cooperating. I think we’ve made advancements in that relationship,” Thomas said.
