Nepal plane crash: aircraft crashed into a gorge ten seconds before landing, caught fire

Yeti Airlines ATR-72 aircraft took off from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:33 am on Sunday to Pokhara in the Himalayan nation.

Just seconds before landing at the Pokhara airport around 11 am, the aircraft crashed on the bank of the Seti River between the old airport and the new airport.

The crash happened around 20 minutes after the take-off, suggesting the aircraft might have been on the descent.

The flight time between the two cities is 25 minutes.

The plane caught fire as it crashed, images and videos posted on social media platforms showed plumes of smoke billowing from the crash site.

All 72 people onboard are feared dead in the crash according to media reports.

The cause of the crash is not known yet.
