Namibia reports death from tick-virus that makes people bleed from eyes

One person died due to tick-borne virus in Namibia, following which the country has declared an outbreak of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Reuters reported.

The patient who was suspected of contracting the virus when he was first treated at a clinic on May 16, died on May 18, the report added, citing an official statement by Namibia's Health Ministry.

As per the WHO, the disease kills up to 40 per cent of infected people. The tick-virus can spread from human to human through blood or bodily fluids can once contracted can make the person bleed from the eyes.

The officials have so far tracked down 27 of his contacts, out of which 24 are health workers in the country.
