Nabeela Syed: 23-year-old Muslim woman of Indian-origin elected to Illinois Assembly | US midterm polls

Nabeela Syed, the 23-year-old Indian origin Muslim woman in the United States has created history by winning the Illinois General Assembly in the US midterm polls.

With the win, Syed became the youngest member to get elected to the llinois General Assembly. A Democrat, Syed beat her Republican challenger Chris Bos. She received 52.3% votes in the election for the 51st District in the Illinois State House of Representatives.

Thrilled at her win, Syed took to Twitter and expressed her excitement saying, “My name is Nabeela Syed. I am a 23-year-old Muslim, Indian-American woman. We just flipped a Republican-held suburban district.”. "And in January, I'll be the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly.”, she added.

As per a report by The Quint, Syed was born in Illinois' Palatine and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She has a degree in political science and business.

The newly elected member of the House is said to be active in her religious community at the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburb.
