Nicosia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored on Monday with Cyprus's highest civilian accolade, the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III.

"I am humbled to receive the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III' from Cyprus. I dedicate this to the enduring friendship between our two nations," expressed the Prime Minister upon receiving the distinction.

This esteemed recognition was presented to the Prime Minister by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

The Order of Makarios III, named after Cyprus's first president, Archbishop Makarios III, stands as the country's premier order of knighthood.

Dedicating the honor to the 1.4 billion citizens of India, Modi emphasized that it symbolizes the strong India-Cyprus friendship. He also shared his optimism for the future, asserting that their collaborative efforts will elevate the progress of both nations and foster global peace and security.

The Ministry of External Affairs remarked on X, "President @Christodulides conferred PM @narendramodi with the ‘Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III’ of Cyprus. The honor underlines the longstanding India–Cyprus bilateral relationship and our shared dedication to forging a path towards peace, progress, and prosperity."

Modi's itinerary includes Cyprus as the first stop on his three-nation tour. Following this, he will head to Canada for the G7 summit and subsequently visit Croatia.
