Mobile phones to be prohibited in UK schools

The UK has decided to ban the use of mobile phones across all schools in England as part of its plan to ''minimise disruption and improve behaviour in classrooms.''

"Schools are places for children to learn and mobile phones are, at a minimum, an unwanted distraction in the classroom. We are giving our hard-working teachers the tools to take action to help improve behaviour and to allow them to do what they do best, teach," Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, said in a statement.

The Department for Education has published guidance to ensure all schools across England follow the same rules.

The guidance read, "We are determined that all schools should prohibit the use of mobile phones throughout the school day—not only during lessons but during breaks and lunchtimes as well."

She further added, ''Schools are places for children to learn and mobile phones are, at a minimum, an unwanted distraction in the classroom. We are giving our hard-working teachers the tools to take action to help improve behaviour and to allow them to do what they do best – teach.''
