M.F. Husain Museum to Open in Doha, Celebrating Art

Dubai, Oct 1 (PTI): A new museum celebrating the life and legacy of M F Husain, one of modern art's most influential figures, is set to open in Doha, Qatar, next month.

The 'Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum' will welcome visitors starting November 28, offering a space designed to inspire creativity and conversation.

"Designed as a space for inspiration and creativity, 'Lawh Wa Qalam: M. F. Husain Museum' reflects Qatar Foundation’s dedication to providing spaces for everyone to explore, enjoy, learn from, and be inspired by art and culture," stated Kholoud M. Al-Ali, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Programming at the Doha-based Qatar Foundation.

This initiative represents an important addition to Qatar’s vibrant cultural scene.

The museum will offer a truly immersive art experience, allowing visitors to delve into the world of Maqbool Fida Husain. They can explore the artist's influences, philosophies, and life memories through multimedia storytelling and various art forms, including paintings, films, tapestry, photography, and poetry. The intention is to vividly and innovatively convey Husain’s creative spirit, striking a chord with audiences both in Qatar and the surrounding region.

Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, the Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, had previously commissioned Husain to create a series of paintings inspired by Arab civilisation. The museum will display over 35 of these artworks, which Husain completed before his passing.

The museum's design is inspired by a sketch from Husain, capturing the architectural vision he had for the space. This reflects his lifelong passion for innovation and his expansive artistic work across various fields.
