Macrons Seek Damages from Candace Owens Over Defamation

Paris, Jul 24 (AP) - A legal representative for the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his wife, Brigitte, has announced that the couple will seek "substantial" damages from American conservative influencer Candace Owens. This legal action comes as a response to Owens' ongoing claims that Brigitte Macron is actually a man.

Attorney Tom Clare explained in a CNN interview that filing a defamation lawsuit in a Delaware court this Wednesday was considered a "last resort." Over the past year, repeated attempts have been made to resolve the issue with Owens and to urge her to "do the right thing: tell the truth, stop spreading these lies." However, according to Clare, each attempt was met with mockery from Owens directed at both the Macrons and their attempts to clarify the situation. He concluded, "Enough is enough, it was time to hold her accountable."

The legal complaint against Owens presents "extensive evidence" supporting that Brigitte Macron "was born a woman, she's always been a woman," as detailed by Clare.

While specifics of the damages claim will be presented during the trial, Clare warned that if Owens continues her defamatory claims leading up to the proceedings, the couple will pursue a substantial compensation amount.

At this moment, there has been no immediate comment from the French presidential office regarding the lawsuit.

Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron have been married since 2007, and Emmanuel has held the office of France's president since 2017. Their relationship began when Brigitte was a teacher, and Emmanuel was her student in high school. Brigitte Macron, at that time known as Brigitte Auziere, was married with three children. Emmanuel later relocated to Paris for his senior year of high school, vowing to marry Brigitte, who thereafter joined him in Paris following her divorce, leading to their eventual marriage.
