Singapore PM Lawrence Wong to Strengthen Ties with India

Singapore, Sep 2 (PTI) — Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is set to embark on a significant three-day official visit to India, beginning this Tuesday. This visit is part of an effort to reaffirm and strengthen the bilateral ties between the two nations, as announced by his office.

This introductory visit by Wong, conducted at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is particularly symbolic as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and India.

The visit highlights both countries' mutual commitment to enhancing their partnership, further cementing the strong bonds nurtured over the years.

During his time in New Delhi, Prime Minister Wong is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu and hold discussions with Prime Minister Modi, who will honor him with a banquet lunch.

Wong, who also serves as Singapore's Finance Minister, is expected to meet with prominent Indian leaders, including the Minister of Health and Family Welfare J P Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, as per the official statement.

Additionally, he will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi by visiting the Rajghat.

To mark Singapore's 60th independence anniversary, known as SG60, and to celebrate the enduring Singapore-India diplomatic ties, PM Wong is set to meet overseas Singaporeans at a special reception in New Delhi.

Further, he will engage with Indian business leaders during a closed-door roundtable discussion, fostering opportunities for deeper economic collaboration.
