Khalistani Leader Inderjeet Singh Gosal Arrested in Ontario

Toronto, Sep 23 (PTI) – Local media reports indicate that Canadian police have apprehended Inderjeet Singh Gosal, a prominent Khalistani leader, in Whitby, Ontario, in connection with over a dozen firearms-related charges. The Ontario Provincial Police took Gosal into custody on Friday, citing careless use of a handgun among other offenses, according to a report by Global News released on Monday.

The 36-year-old Gosal made a court appearance in Oshawa on Monday. He was charged alongside Arman Singh, 23, from Toronto, and Jagdeep Singh, 41, a resident of New York, as per the report.

Inderjeet Singh Gosal spearheads a referendum campaign advocating for the creation of Khalistan, succeeding Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the previous coordinator who was fatally shot in Surrey, British Columbia. The report also revealed that Gosal is associated with Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), as reported by CBC on Monday.

Attempts to reach Gosal by phone or text on Monday were unsuccessful, the media suggested.

The SFJ is an organization pushing for the separatist idea of forming a Sikh state. Its leader, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, has been designated a terrorist by the Indian Government.

Notably, Canada is home to the largest Sikh community outside of India.
