London, September 8 (PTI): Karnataka's Ministers for Medical Education and Skills Development, Sharanprakash Patil, alongside Minister for Higher Education, MC Sudhakar, paid homage to the historic Basaveshwara Statue in London on Sunday. This prestigious occasion witnessed the presence of Manjunath Bhandari, a Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council, as well as Bhagavan B C and Jayakar S M, Vice Chancellors of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Bangalore University, respectively.

The event was a collaborative effort by the Lambeth Basaveshwara Foundation and the Basava Samithi of the United Kingdom. The Ministers were warmly received by Neeraj Patil, former Mayor of the London Borough of Lambeth, Abhijeet Salimath, Vice President of UK Basava Samithi, and Gurminder Randhawa, Vice President of the Indian Overseas Congress.

Addressing the gathering, the Ministers highlighted the enduring relevance of Lord Basaveshwara's teachings in today’s world. They emphasized how these principles offer remarkable insights into creating a fair, inclusive, and just society.

On this momentous occasion, the Lambeth Basaveshwara Foundation extended a formal invitation to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. The statue of Lord Basaveshwara, an iconic landmark unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 14, 2015, holds the distinction of being the first statue in the United Kingdom to be inaugurated by an Indian Prime Minister.

Furthermore, it stands out as one of the few conceptual statues to have acquired formal approval from the British Cabinet under the UK Statues Act of 1854.
