Jordan Intercepts Iranian Drones as Tensions Escalate

Dubai, June 13 (AP) - Air raid sirens blared across Jordan's capital on Friday as Iranian drones approached, aiming to retaliate against Israel for its recent strikes on Iran. In response, Jordanian state media reported that the country's Air Force was actively engaging to intercept these missiles and drones within its airspace.

According to the state news agency, an unnamed senior military official stated that the decision to intercept was based on military analyses predicting that the missiles and drones were likely to land in Jordanian territory. This area includes populated regions, thereby posing a potential risk to civilian safety.

The official further emphasized that the Jordan Armed Forces are operating tirelessly "around the clock to defend the country's borders by land, sea, and air and will not allow any violation of Jordanian airspace under any circumstances." Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed that it was intercepting drones outside its territory.

In Iraq, two security officials, who opted to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the situation, revealed that over 100 drones launched from Iran were tracked as they crossed Iraqi airspace toward Israel. Residents from Iraq's Diyala province, which shares a border with Iran, reported hearing aircraft and explosions from strikes within Iranian territory early on Friday. Some even noted witnessing drones launching from Iran, heading toward Israel. (AP) NSA NSA
