Jerusalem Shooting: Four Dead, Attackers Neutralized

JERUSALEM, Sep 8 (AP) - At least four individuals lost their lives in a shooting incident in Jerusalem, according to paramedics. The attack occurred when gunmen opened fire on a bus at a busy intersection in the northern part of the city. Paramedics stated that 15 others sustained injuries, with six individuals in critical condition.

The police have reported that they "neutralized" two attackers shortly after the shooting commenced. However, they have not provided an immediate update on the status of the attackers. The tragic event took place at a significant intersection at the northern entrance to Jerusalem, on a route leading to Jewish settlements in east Jerusalem. Israeli media noted that the attackers boarded a bus and began firing.

Video footage from the scene depicted numerous people fleeing a bus stop at the bustling intersection during the morning rush hour. Paramedics responding to the incident described the area as chaotic, littered with broken glass, and with victims lying unconscious on the streets and sidewalks. There has been no immediate response from Palestinian militant groups regarding the assault.

The ongoing conflict in Gaza has resulted in a spike in violence within both the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Israel. Palestinian militants have perpetrated attacks, resulting in fatalities in Israel and the West Bank, while incidents of settler violence against Palestinians have also increased. Although sporadic attacks have occurred over recent months in Israel, the last major shooting incident happened in October 2024. In that attack, two Palestinians from the West Bank carried out a shooting on a Tel Aviv boulevard and at a light rail station, killing seven and wounding numerous others. Hamas' military wing took responsibility for the attack.

According to the police, the two attackers fired in Tel Aviv's Jaffa neighborhood, specifically targeting a light rail carriage crammed with passengers halted at a station. (AP) - SCY SCY
