Israeli Drone Strikes in Damascus Lead to Casualties

Damascus, Aug 27 (AP) Israeli drone strikes targeted a southern suburb of Damascus, killing six soldiers and injuring others, according to reports from state media and a war monitor on Wednesday.

State-run Al-Ikhbariah reported that the strikes occurred in the Kiswah area on Tuesday, but did not provide additional details. The Israeli military has not released a statement regarding these recent attacks. Since the fall of Bashar Assad in December, Israel has launched numerous airstrikes throughout Syria, aiming at Syrian military assets. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in Britain, stated that the recent strikes hit a location linking Damascus to the southern province of Sweida. This area previously experienced fierce clashes between pro-government forces and members of Syria's Druze minority. Israel intervened in these previous conflicts in support of the Druze, a community with significant representation in Israel, where they are considered a loyal minority and frequently serve in the military. The Observatory further indicated that the site hit Tuesday once hosted military posts for Assad's forces prior to his fall approximately nine months ago. There were multiple strikes, with one hitting after paramedics had arrived at the scene, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers and injuries to three individuals. Earlier that day, an Israeli drone strike near the town of Quneitra led to one fatality, as reported by Al-Ikhbariah and the Observatory. Syria's Foreign Ministry condemned the strike in Quneitra, citing violations of international law and threats to regional peace and stability. (AP) SCY SCY
