Tragic Assault: Five Officers Killed in Iran's Southeastern Attack

Tragic Assault: Five Officers Killed in Iran's Southeastern Attack

In a tragic incident on Friday, five police officers lost their lives in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchistan province, as reported by state media.

The officers, who were on patrol in two police vehicles, came under attack near the city of Iranshahr, approximately 1,300 kilometers southeast of Tehran, Iran's capital, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The report did not specify the number of officers who sustained injuries during the assault.

No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Sistan and Baluchistan, a province bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, often experiences deadly confrontations involving militant groups, armed drug smugglers, and Iranian security forces. It remains one of the less developed regions in Iran.

In a related incident, in July, attackers targeted a court building with gunfire and grenades in the provincial capital of Zahedan, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including a child, and injuring 20 others.
