Iran Eliminates 13 Militants in Sistan and Baluchistan Operations

Tehran, Aug 27 (AP) Iran's security forces reportedly eliminated 13 militants in a series of operations on Wednesday in the southeastern part of the country, according to state television reports.

Eight of the militants were allegedly involved in an attack that resulted in the deaths of five police officers who were on patrol in the region last Friday.

The Iranian media attributes the attack to the militant group Jaish al-Adl, which claims to be advocating for greater rights for the ethnic Baluch minority.

Clashes between security personnel and militants were reported in three different cities within the Sistan and Baluchistan province.

The report also mentioned the detention of additional militants during the operation, though it did not specify the number of detainees.

Both police forces and the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard participated in these operations.

Sistan and Baluchistan, which shares its borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, frequently experiences violent confrontations involving militant groups, armed drug traffickers, and Iranian security forces.

The province is recognized as one of the least developed areas in Iran.
