Iran: Death of another Kurdish student prompts fresh protest

Fresh protests have erupted in Iran in the wake of death of another Kurdish student Nasrin Ghadri, who died on November 5, after reportedly being struck over the head by the police.

The latest demonstrations have broken out in the northwestern Iranian city of Marivan.

The Guardian quoted rights group Hengaw which confirmed Ghadri’s death due to police assault. It also added that the security forces opened fire at protesters, injuring at least 35 of them in the latest crackdown.

The theocratic regime is yet to comment on death cause of 35-year-old Ghadri.

November 6 witnessed sit-ins at several universities including Tehran’s Sharif University. At another university in Babol, gender segregation barriers were removed by students.

The dissent protests have resulted in the death of at least 186 people in the country, as per Iran Human Rights group.

The protesters are largely university students who have been actively engaged in demonstrations against hijab law. The showdown between Iranian authorities and students have escalated since the death of Kurdish student Mahsa Amini in police custody.
