Indonesian police fired tear gas and water cannon to disperse thousands of protesters who attempted to storm parliament on Thursday.

The unrest was triggered over the legislature's attempt to bring controversial changes related to election laws in the country, which could further enhance the political influence of outgoing President Joko Widodo.
