London/Singapore, Aug 15 (PTI): Indian embassies around the world marked India's 79th Independence Day with enthusiasm and spirit, replicating the patriotic fervor seen in the homeland.

In London, the High Commission witnessed a large gathering of people of Indian origin celebrating the occasion with music and dance. Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami unfurled the Tricolour, followed by the National Anthem resonating across the India House courtyard.

“Independence Day is an opportunity for Indian citizens and friends of India, including the diaspora, to reconnect with the nation,” Doraiswami remarked.

In Singapore, High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule emphasized India’s stand on terrorism, unveiling an exhibition that shed light on notable terror attacks in India. Around 800 Indians attended the event, enjoying performances by students from local Indian schools.

Ambule emphasized, “We want our message against terrorism to reach the diaspora.” He noted the commencement of “Op Sindoor,” signaling a new strategy against terrorism and its sponsors.

The Indian Embassy in Thimphu, Bhutan, engaged in the celebration with patriotic songs from Bhutanese artists and students from the Nehru-Wangchuck Culture Centre. Ambassador Sudhakar Dalela led the event, echoing President Droupadi Murmu’s Independence Day address.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Nepal held a colorful event featuring performances by students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Kendriya Vidyalaya Kathmandu, alongside announcing book grants for 39 educational institutions in Nepal.

Geetika Srivastava, the Chargé d'affaires at the High Commission of India in Islamabad, conducted a ceremony in which the Tricolour was hoisted and President Murmu’s address was read.

In Doha, Qatar, floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi, while cultural performances captivated attendees. The Indian community in Kuwait participated actively in the #HarGharTiranga campaign.

The Indian Embassy in the UAE showcased an exhibition on the ‘human cost of terrorism,’ illustrating its impact in India and beyond.

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah celebrated with traditional Indian regional cuisines representing the country's diversity alongside the national flag hoisting.

Ambassador JP Singh in Israel highlighted the enduring strategic partnership between India and Israel, noting the positive reception of Indian citizens in Israel.

In Colombo, the High Commission renewed its commitment to “Viksit Bharat,” with High Commissioner Santosh Jha leading the celebrations.

In Tokyo, Ambassador Sibi George interacted with students and shared President Murmu's address, echoing the sentiments of national pride.

In the Maldives, High Commissioner G Balasubramanian celebrated with the Indian community, while Indian Ambassador to China, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, hoisted the Tricolour in Beijing, followed by cultural showcases.

In Shanghai, Consul General Pratik Mathur led a ceremony for the local Indian community, attended by over 200 nationals and diplomatic guests at the chancery's premises.
