Johannesburg, Aug 22 (PTI) Indian companies in the food and pharmaceutical sectors are eager to establish partnerships with South African businesses, according to Harish Kumar, the Deputy Consul General in Johannesburg. Kumar addressed this during a media briefing on Thursday, where he provided details about the upcoming Pharm Health South Africa event, which will be hosted alongside the Food Show South Africa next week.

Over 30 Indian companies are expected to participate in the Pharm Health South Africa and Food Show South Africa exhibitions, scheduled to take place from August 27 to 29 in Johannesburg.

“Indian companies are prepared to collaborate closely with South African partners to boost local manufacturing and ensure accessible healthcare for all,” Kumar stated. He emphasized that South African businesses could gain from India’s economical manufacturing base, vast consumer market, and top-tier R&D infrastructure.

Anton Coetzee, Financial Director of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association of South Africa (MDMSA), noted, “Given its manufacturing scale, India's advantage lies in having numerous European Conformity Assessment bodies stationed in the country, with trained local staff meeting auditor requirements recognized by the European Union.” He further explained, “India has EU-recognized certification bodies capable of auditing South African manufacturers. South Africa stands to benefit more by training local auditors to undertake unannounced or surveillance audits on behalf of EU certification bodies.”

The Consulate General of India is organizing the Pharm Health South Africa, co-located with the Food Show South Africa, in collaboration with Genesis Global Exhibitions, Ace Group, and Astovision.
