Indian origin student froze to death in US after being denied entry to nightclub

An Indian-origin student of Illinois University, Akul Dhawan, died of hypothermia after being denied entry to a nearby club during a night out with friends. As per reports, Akul was found dead on January 20.

Akul was said to be drinking with his friends and later decided to go to the 'Canopy Club' near their university campus.

Reports said his friends entered the club but Akul was denied entry. The Indian-origin student repeatedly tried to get in but was turned away. According to the Kansas City Star, Akul also declined two rideshare that were called for him.

On that night, the temperature dropped below -2 degrees Celsius. At that time, Dhawan was already drunk and he got exposed to the extremely cold temperature.

When his friend tried calling him, it went unanswered. One of his friends also contacted the police to help find Akul, but there was no trace of him.

Akul was found a day later, lying on concrete steps near a building. The Kansas City Star informed that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dhawan's parents, who reside in San Francisco Bay Area in California, in an open letter slammed the police for ignorance saying that they did not search for their son properly that night. If they would have found him, then their son's life could have been saved, Dhawan's family said.
