Indian Missions Worldwide Celebrate 79th Independence Day

Tel Aviv/Singapore, August 15 (PTI): Indian missions marked the 79th Independence Day with fervor, mirroring celebrations held in India.

In Israel, India's Ambassador JP Singh proudly raised the tricolor flag in front of 350 members of the Indian community. He highlighted the strengthening of Indo-Israeli strategic ties, praising the camaraderie between the nations during times of crisis. Recognizing the mutual respect shared by both countries, Singh commended the Indian workforce and caregivers in Israel, acknowledging the significant role of the Indian Jewish community as a connecting link. The flag-hoisting was complemented by a cultural event showcasing local Indian talent.

Meanwhile, in Singapore, High Commissioner Shilpak Ambule delivered the President's message to the Indian diaspora as part of the Independence Day celebrations. The ceremony featured an extensive exhibition focusing on India’s stance against terrorism. Indian students from local schools sang patriotic songs and performed traditional dances for an audience of 800 people. Ambule expressed the importance of conveying India's position on terrorism to the diaspora, emphasizing the principle of "Op Sindoor," which advocates treating terrorists and their sponsors equally. Additionally, the High Commission honored Indian migrant workers who demonstrated valor earlier this year by saving children from a fire and rescuing a woman from a sinkhole.

In Colombo, the Indian High Commissioner underscored its commitment to "Viksit Bharat" during its commemoration of Independence Day. High Commissioner Santosh Jha raised the national flag at India House, with the Indian community in Sri Lanka celebrating with shared pride and unity.

In Tokyo, the Indian Embassy broadcast the address by President Droupadi Murmu. Ambassador Sibi George engaged with Indian schoolchildren during the event.

India’s High Commissioner in the Maldives, G Balasubramanian, led the celebrations in the presence of the vibrant local Indian community.

In China, Ambassador Pradeep Kumar Rawat unfurled the tricolor in Beijing, sharing excerpts from the President's speech, followed by cultural performances. In Shanghai, Consul General Pratik Mathur raised the flag within the chancery grounds. The event drew over 200 Indian nationals, community leaders, local Chinese friends of India, and members of the diplomatic corps.
