Indian Delagates Visit Nepal's Madhes Province Amid Drought Crisis

Kathmandu, Aug 14 (PTI) – A three-member delegation from India's Jal Shakti ministry recently visited Madhes Province in Nepal to engage with Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh and address the severe drought situation affecting the region. The drought has resulted from a delayed monsoon, significantly impacting this vital agricultural area which borders India. The late and insufficient rainfall has posed serious threats to the farmers' livelihoods, who rely heavily on timely sowing for their crops. While the area has recently experienced some rainfall, offering partial relief, the crisis remains critical for local farmers and communities. The Chief Minister's Office stated that the Indian delegation shared valuable expertise on harnessing groundwater resources to tackle water shortages in the province. Furthermore, the delegation committed to dispatching a team of Indian technicians soon. These experts will conduct a comprehensive study to assess the groundwater availability throughout various parts of Madhes Province.
