Indian Embassy in Ireland Raises Safety Concerns Amid Attacks

Following rising attacks in Dublin, the Indian Embassy in Ireland issues a safety advisory. Key incidents are under investigation. Community protests against racism and calls for concrete protective measures intensify.

Indian Embassy in Ireland Raises Safety Concerns Amid Attacks

London, Aug 1 (PTI) - Following a recent spate of attacks in Dublin, the Indian Embassy in Ireland has raised safety concerns for its citizens and advised them to exercise caution.

In an advisory released on Friday, the embassy noted a rise in physical attacks against Indian nationals, urging them to take safety measures, particularly avoiding deserted areas during odd hours.

The advisory comes in the wake of a particularly brutal attack on July 19, where a 40-year-old Indian man was targeted in Dublin's Parkhill Road, described by the community as "mindless, racist violence."

In response, the Irish police, known as the Gardai, have begun an investigation. Indian Ambassador to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra, took to social media expressing his shock and support for the victim and his family, stating that the embassy is working closely with Irish authorities.

The advisory also provided emergency contact details for the embassy.

A community protest, 'Stand Against Racism,' was held to condemn this "vicious racist attack" and show support for migrants in the area.

Dr. Santosh Yadav, a Dublin-based entrepreneur and AI expert, shared his harrowing experience on LinkedIn about being subjected to a "brutal, unprovoked racist attack" by a group of teenagers near his apartment.

Yadav recounted being beaten and having his cheekbone fractured, lamenting the rise in racist attacks against Indian men and minorities across Dublin. He called for "concrete measures" from both the Irish and Indian governments to ensure the safety of Indians.

Fine Gael party Councillor for Tallaght South, Baby Pereppadan, expressed concern over the attacks, emphasizing the contributions of Indian professionals in crucial sectors like healthcare and technology.
