Imran Khan Seeks Legal Action Against Punjab CM for Jail Conditions

Lahore, Aug 26 (PTI) Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan has submitted an application to the police, requesting that a case be registered against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and senior government officials for allegedly denying him "basic facilities" while in jail. Imran Khan, aged 72, who transitioned from a cricket star to a political leader, has been incarcerated since August 2023 as he faces numerous legal charges. He is currently held in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi. In his complaint against Maryam and eight other prison officials, Khan addressed the police chief of Rawalpindi, alleging that the deprivation of basic amenities provided to him in jail is due to their influence. "As per directives from the Punjab chief minister, my fundamental rights as a detainee are being violated. There is no lighting in my cell, and my family is being denied visiting rights," Khan asserted. Furthermore, he accused police officers, Zainab and Aizaz, stationed near Adiala Jail, of intimidating his family. He urged for an FIR to be lodged against Maryam Nawaz and the eight named individuals for the denial of essential amenities in jail. In a separate communication on social media, Khan expressed that while in solitary confinement, he is steadfastly working towards the genuine liberation of his nation, vowing to remain resolute until he succeeds in emancipating his people from oppression. "I am once again placed in absolute isolation. Both family and lawyer visitations have been halted. To ensure I remain completely detached from the outside world and oblivious to current happenings, all media, including television and newspapers, has been entirely restricted," he explained. "An equally harsh treatment is being imposed on my wife, Bushra Bibi, as our meetings are not permitted. Out of many books sent by my family, I have only been allowed to read four over the past two months; the remaining were confiscated. They have also barred access to my personal physician, effectively stripping me of my basic healthcare rights," he criticized.
