Hurricane Ian: Catastrophic storm swamps hospitals, streets of Florida

Tipped as one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the United States, hurricane Ian has made landfall on Florida’s south-western coast. The catastrophic storm has brought heavy rain, high winds as it surges ahead.

The storm has turned the streets of Florida into rivers, shutting electricity of over one million people and threatening to cause further catastrophic damage. This happened as a result of Ian knocking out power in all of Cuba.

Meanwhile, the residents in the affected vicinities are being evacuated.

The Category 4 storm slammed the coast with 150 mph (241 kph) winds and pushed a wall of storm surge accumulated during its slow march over the Gulf of Mexico. More than 1 million Florida homes and businesses were without electricity. The storm previously tore into Cuba, killing two people and bringing down the country's electrical grid.
