Vibrant Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations in Nepal on August 27

Kathmandu, Aug 27 – In a vibrant display of devotion, Hindus across Nepal celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi on Wednesday. This festival, which honors Lord Ganesh as the remover of obstacles and the deity of wisdom and prosperity, was marked with fervent prayers and rituals.

Recognized on the fourth day of Bhadra Shukla according to the lunar calendar, the occasion drew a multitude of devotees to prominent temples such as Kamaladi Ganesh, Ashok Binayak, and Surya Binayak in Kathmandu, as well as to other shrines across various cities.

Worshippers presented offerings of flowers, fruits, and sweets as they sought blessings for good fortune, knowledge, and prosperity.

The Newar community in Kathmandu added to the celebrations with a special feast that featured a delightful array of foods including beaten rice, boiled and fried eggs, dried fish, meat, and a traditional dish known as bara, which is made from black lentils, beans, ginger, and garlic. These offerings were first dedicated to Lord Ganesh before being shared as prasad.

The festival was further enlivened by the singing of religious songs and the playing of traditional music, creating an atmosphere of joy and reverence.
